Easter Concert

It wasn't a church service, it wasn't even on sunday, but clearly it was bad karma to take a picture in the chapel.

Saturday night our ward choir (40+ singers i'm estimating) put on song and the spoken word for an easter celebration. Sister Jolene hatch is an incredible musician and as chorister really gets the most out of a group. They decorated the gym tastefully, had decent food for a reception afterwards and all in all was a lovely evening.

Rindy sang in the choir - Mac and I were the attentive audience types.

Singing Once Again

Back in December we wrote of Evan's BYU singing adventure and wouldn't you know now  he is in the second semester of Choir. They sang today at the BYU Devotional which can be found here (as long as the link is live).

I was noticing an advertisement on my phone today for a new Where's Waldo App; which made me think as I watched the choir sing that I could develop an app for the choir called - where is the monitor displaying the program.

But I digress. What a great opportunity. Rindy talked with Evan right after the program and he was brimful with excitement and pride of his accomplishment.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Sing a Little Bit Longer

Music has been deeply engraved in the lives of Rindy and I since our youth; and it has played a significant ongoing role in our family. Surprisingly, at least to us, only two of the kids participated in choir during high school – Evan and Parker. Both had spectacular experiences. (One of their shared directors Dale Cruze leads one of this season’s best Holiday Flash Mobs –

And, to date, only one has participated in college – Evan. He gratefully, had the opportunity to participate in the BYU University Choral with his second cousin Mariah Wilson as one of the conductors / directors. (many thanks to Mariah) Evan loves to sing, though truth be told he has an incredibly limited range, perhaps only matched by my father. But sing he does.

Nonetheless, he was able to participate when the BYU University Chorale sang at the BYU Dec 6th Devotional. We watched it, teary –eyed and full of gratitude on BYU internet TV live and hope to post it here if I can find a copy of it.

Spring

Spring is wonderful it brings the sunshine, green grass, robins, choir trips and gatherings. We had a 70 degree day Friday followed by snow on Saturday and day cool Sunday. Saturday also brought the Armstrong choir on tour back to Illinois. Parker was able to join them down at Northwestern for part of the day - seeing friends, learning a bit more music theory and Gino's east - what more can a guy ask for. Sunday AHS choir sang at a local Naperville church - short clip here.

The evening followed with the Spring Dance at Naperville North with a group of guys and girls from the Ward. Dinner - Dance - Laser Tag it sounds like the teen trifecta.
