Achilles and the Tortoise
How could a humble tortoise beat the legendary Greek hero Achilles in a race? The Greek philosopher Zeno liked a challenge and came up with this paradox. First, the tortoise is given a slight head start. Anyone fancying a flutter would still rush to put their money on Achilles. But Zeno pointed out that, to overtake him, Achilles would first have to cover the distance to the point where the tortoise began. In that time the tortoise would have moved – so Achilles would have to cover that distance, giving the tortoise time to amble forwards a bit more. Logically this would carry on forever. However small the gap between them, the tortoise would still be able to move forwards while Achilles was catching up. Meaning that Achilles could never overtake.
Taken to an extreme, this bizarre paradox suggests that all movement is impossible. But it did lead to the realisation that something finite can be divided an infinite number of times. This concept of ‘an Infinite Series’ is used in finance, to work out mortgage payments...
Which is why they take an infinite amount of time to pay off!

Home for the Holidays

The house is quieter when everyone is not home.
But it is still delightful to have those who can;
and we miss those who can't.

Quintessential Wisconsin

Carp's Landing
Even the name portends of being in Wisconsin.
(Bad picture - I'm still hit or miss with my cell phone)

We were driving back from a brief christmas interlude in Minnesota and as circumstances had Blair & Julie found time to meet up with us for dinner in downtown Lake Mills Wisconsin.  Carp's Landing is a very family friendly corner bar / restaurant. This night is was jammed with families as the cover band was a high school boy band - rocking the joint. Eden danced the night away and June seemed captivated by it all (which was surprising for as noisy as it was), and Dean happy to have uncles and an aunt to climb around, while we ate.. The food was fine, the atmosphere lively, the company grand.

Lunch with Mom

Christmas is a wonderful time. It was by far my father's favorite time of year and we miss him. We still rejoice in the season and enjoy getting together with family. Particularly grateful that my mother can still get out and about and party - not quite to hearty - but party.

This morning (saturday) at 8 am we opened our best christmas present for this year

we opened up Skype and had 40 minutes with Parker.
It was great.

On This Night

13 Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the asign be given, and on thebmorrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfil all that which I have caused to be cspoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.
14 Behold, I acome unto my own, to bfulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the cfoundation of the world, and to do the dwilleboth fof the Father and of the Son—of the Father because of me, and of the Son because of my flesh. And behold, the time is at hand, and this night shall the sign be given.
15 And it came to pass that the words which came unto Nephi were fulfilled, according as they had been spoken; for behold, at the going down of the asun there was bno darkness; and the people began to be astonished because there was no darkness when the night came.
19 And it came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order; and they knew that it was the day that the Lord should be aborn, because of the bsign which had been given.
20 And it had come to pass, yea, all things, every whit, according to the words of the prophets.
21 And it came to pass also that a new astar did appear, according to the word.
For Unto Us A SON Is Given

Un-curated

So we are quickly closing in on Christmas. I thought to put you in the Spirit I would share some of my favorite nativities. You want details - well you'll have to ask Rindy. To do that come over for Oj and Cinnamon Rolls Saturday morning and she'll tell you all about them. Merry Christmas.
